Welcome to the Tiki Island website
It was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in the Germany of the early1940’s, that
first suggested to the church that we were entering an age where
society will give less and less space to God and His kind. He
saw Church becoming less and less relevant, an accessory for just
the few that still needed the crutch it offered.
Yet all around us society is fragmenting at an alarming rate, and
relationships seem to be breaking up as quickly as they are made-up.
The ‘rugged independence’ of our lifestyle and attitudes can
sometimes help justify our need to be in control, and to hold on to
our own space.
As a consequence there has never been a time when we more needed the
gift of relationship than we do today. Most of us in weak or honest
moments will probably admit we would like to be part of a community
‘where everyone knows my name’ - a safe place where we can be
ourselves – more real and more honest.
Church at its best gives us intimacy with Christ, anticipation of
Eternity, and a deepening sense of calling and significance.
But for now church can also give us all a sense of being accepted,
loved, a hope of living well, a bit more peace of mind, and a good
reason to get up in the morning.
We cannot claim to give you any or all of these, but we are working
at them as a faith community, and would love you to join us on our
journey at Tiki Island Chapel………
